Coastal Carpet Python (Morelia spilota mcdowelli)
Non-venomous, but bites can cause deep lacerations.
This species can grow to more than 3 metres in length. Most specimens are olive green or brown, with pale, dark-edged blotches, stripes or bands. They have a row of deep heat-sensing pits along the lower jaw.
This is as very commonly-encountered snake species in southeast Queensland. Coastal Carpet Pythons are constrictors and usually eat mammals such as rodents, possums, and bats; however, they can also take small dogs, cats, and chickens. They are active during the day and night.
